About the founders
Alex and Jon met as passionate photographers. They started out building tools for friends in the photography community, which grew into framer.art, a platform for artists who want to sell their work online. Shutter Speed comes from the same place: practical tools made by photographers, for photographers.
Alex Zarnoski

I’m a documentary and street photographer based in New York City, with more than two decades of work across photography and video. My photographs have been shown at Greenpoint Gallery, where I won a Runner-Up Prize in 2025, as well as at Artel Fest in New York and Barcelona, AlterWorks Studios, and Enochs. Jon and I co-created the photo book Shutter Speed Explores, Volume 1: Manhattan (2025). This year most of my energy has gone into Cross Streets, a documentary series I produce, shoot, and edit that explores the history and culture of New York City, one street at a time. Its first season, A Bite on Doyers Street, digs into the food and turbulent past of one of Chinatown’s most storied blocks.
Before photography took over, I spent more than ten years in television post-production, most recently as VP of Post Production at Engel Entertainment, delivering documentary and reality series such as North Woods Law and Lone Star Law for Animal Planet and Alaska PD and Women on Death Row for A&E. I studied Film/TV and English at Penn State, and my short film Anthony and the Devil won First Prize at the Endless Mountain Digital Film Festival.
I love building creative communities. With NYC Photo Stroll I’ve organized photowalks, group exhibitions, portrait workshops, and a zine series. Earlier I founded Ajazz Networks, an experimental collective for artists, musicians, and comedy projects like The Salinor Show, and I still write and produce with my improv comedy rock band, Salinor. Today I run framer.art, a platform for independent artists, and Fifth & Bowery, my fine art print shop.
Jon Bilous

My work focuses on Americana, architecture, and the human-built landscape, exploring how communities express identity through their structures, signage, and commercial design. For more than a decade I have photographed both big cities and small towns across the United States, documenting the evolution of commercialism, consumer culture, and the overlooked places that sit quietly between past and present. I’m drawn to preserved architectural landmarks, retro typography, industrial remnants, and the “jewels in the middle of nowhere” that define everyday American life. Having lived a nomadic life for many years, my photography is also an exploration of my own relationship with place.
My photography spans 41 U.S. states and 25 countries. My work has been featured in publications including Baltimore Magazine, and I have been commissioned by cities and organizations to document local environments in New York City, New Haven, Long Island, and Peoria, Illinois. I was also commissioned to photograph the city of Alexandria, Virginia for the photobook Alexandria, Virginia: A Photographic Portrait. In addition to commissioned work, I sell fine art prints through The Americana Project to both private collectors and interior designers for residential and commercial spaces. I have invested in building photography communities by helping found NYC Photo Stroll and leading photowalks across the United States.
I also have co-founded and run several software platforms used by artists and photographers. This includes framer.art, an online platform that helps visual artists build their own e-commerce businesses, and Shutter Speed, an app that helps photographers plan their shoots.
