Light Conditions

What it does

Shows Golden Hour, Blue Hour, the three twilight phases, sun direction, day length, solar noon, and peak UV for your location on any date.

What you need

A location. Pick one with the Location control at the top of the screen (Current Location or a saved location). Without one, the results show a dash and a prompt to set your location in Settings. The times are calculated on your device, so no network is needed once your location is set.

How to use it

1. Set your Location at the top.
2. Look at Current Period for the light right now and a countdown to the next change. It also shows UV Index Now.
3. To check another day, drag the date dial left or right, or use the date field below it. Tap the calendar button beside the dial to jump back to today.
4. Read the tiles below for that date.
5. Tap View on Map to open Location Planner at this spot and date, with the sun direction shown.

Reading the results

• Sun Direction Now: the sun's compass bearing in degrees with a direction label. On a date other than today, it shows the bearing at solar noon.
• Sunrise / Sunset: the two times, separated by a bar.
• Morning Golden Hour and Evening Golden Hour: each a start to end span.
• Morning Blue Hour and Evening Blue Hour: each a start to end span.
• Civil, Nautical, and Astronomical Twilight (Dawn/Dusk): the dawn time, then the dusk time.
• Solar Noon: when the sun is highest.
• Day Length: sunrise to sunset. Today also shows the daylight remaining.
• Today's Peak UV: the UV index at solar noon, with its category. It updates for the date you choose.

Tips

• On iPhone, View on Compass → opens the Compass, and the round button beside Sun Direction Now shows a live arrow toward the sun. Tap it again to stop. These are not shown on web.
• Current Period, the countdown, and UV Index Now only appear when the selected date is today.
